  • New Part! 1965-66 Shelby Mustang GT350 Cragar and Ten Spoke Wheel Lug Wrench

New Part! 1965-66 Shelby Mustang GT350 Cragar and Ten Spoke Wheel Lug Wrench

1965 and 1966 Shelby GT350 Lug Wrench for the optional Cragar Wheel and Aluminum Ten Spoke Wheel.www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

The 1965 and 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350’s were available with optional wheels.  In 1965 and early 1966, the optional wheel was a 15 inch aluminum center wheel with a steel chrome rim that was made specially for Shelby by Cragar.  A bit later in the 1966 production, a 14 inch optional aluminum wheel, commonly referred to as a “Ten Spoke” was made available.

Both of these optional wheels used 7/8 inch lug nuts as opposed to the stock 13/16 inch size.  A special lug wrench was designed with a 7/8 inch socket to be added in the trunk of the Shelbys equipped with the optional wheels.
These lug wrenches were reproduced from the original drawings about 30 years ago.  Originals and the first run reproductions have been very difficult to find in the last few years.
Another very limited run was recently made, and we just received some.  More than likely, these will not be run again.
They are available on our web site as part number ST-1791.  Click on the link or any of the pictures to order.  You can also order by just giving us a call.

The latest edition of the Shelby American Automobile Club’s (SAAC) World Registry, dedicated to 1965-1966-1967 Shelbys, is now available.  It is our part number LT58, and you can order it by clicking here.

It has been 14 years since the last registry was printed and in that time SAAC has compiled a stunning amount of new information and has dug even deeper into the production history of these cars. It is no wonder owners and enthusiasts refer to SAAC’s registry as “The Bible.”
Printed in hardcover, and 1,350 pages thick, this book has the serial number and individual history of every Shelby Mustang built in 1965, 1966 and 1967. Also included are separate, detailed chapters on competition cars, prototypes, drag cars, unique models and Shelby-built Trans-Am notchbacks.
The book contains 1,315 black and white photos. Said the book’s editor, Rick Kopec, “If there’s anything that’s not in this book, it’s not worth knowing.”

There are chapters on Shelby values, how to buy a Shelby, fakes and frauds, the Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Driving, the Terlingua Racing Team and much more. Appendix pages include paint codes, stripe dimensions, serial number locations, a list of mechanical components, explanation of DSO codes and a glossary of terms unique to these cars. But wait! There’s more! A list of every unique part for each year Shelby, a specification page for each separate model, factory technical service bulletins, homologation papers, accurate production figures, production statistics and an index of past owners.

The club’s registrars: Howard Pardee (1965-66), Greg Kolasa (Hertz), Dave Mathews (1967) and Gary Underwood (Trans-Am notchbacks) have contributed information, including individual histories on each car, from their voluminous files.

  • Mustang and Shelby HiPo Clutch Equalizer Bar

Mustang and Shelby HiPo Clutch Equalizer Bar

Clutch equalizer bar for 289 High Performance Mustang and Shelby.
    www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
A very common part needing replacement on 1965 and 1966 Mustangs and GT350’s with the 289 High Performance engines is the clutch equalizer bar.  Sometimes this part is referred to as the “z bar”.  At any rate, originals are often bent, twisted, reinforced, repaired, and modified over the years.  It is even interesting to note in the Shelby American Automobile Club’s Registry that there are many notes of these bars having been replaced on ’65 and ’66 GT350 Shelbys when they had just a few thousand miles.
Obviously, it is nearly impossible to find a good original.  Even if you do find one that looks good, there is a very good chance that it is twisted.
We carry a reproduction from Scott Drake Mustang Parts that is absolutely super.  Here, we have a few comparison photos of one of our reproductions vs. an NOS bar.  Please note that there are a few reproductions on the market.  This one is by far the best.  One of the others fit and functions just fine, but it just doesn’t have the exact smooth bends that match the original.
Of course, you will notice the grease fitting in this reproduction.  We recommend removing this and welding up the hole if you want it exactly like the original.  Other than that, we would recommend this part on even the highest end restorations.
This bar has the block on the top like the ’65 bar.  This block can be removed to use on ’66 Mustangs.

The bends on the reproduction clutch equalizer bar are identical to the original.

We now have the idler arm bushing for the 1965 and 1966 Shelby Mustang.  This bushing is exactly like the original with the steel inner and outer sleeve.  It is even marked “Harris Silentbloc 62366.”

This bushing will also fit the 65-66 Mustang Power Steering Idler Arm (original arms only.)

It is our part number SU157.

  • Mustang High Performance Choke Cable Rubber Cover

Mustang High Performance Choke Cable Rubber Cover

Rubber Cover for Manual Choke Cable Assembly.

    www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

We now have the rubber covering for the Mustang and Shelby manual choke cable assembly.  It comes as a 52 inch section, which should be more than enough to do any 65-66 HiPo Mustang choke cable or even a 69-70 Boss 302.  Our part number is IN-7481.  The new covering allows you to use your original choke cable if it is good and only needs the rubber covering replaced.  If you need the entire 65-66 Mustang / GT350 Shelby manual choke cable assembly, we still have a great USA made reproduction with the correct knob, bracket, cable and covering.  Our part number on this is IN-70.

  • 1965 and 1966 Mustang Front Disc Brake Splash Shields

1965 and 1966 Mustang Front Disc Brake Splash Shields

Correct 1965 and 1966 Mustang and Shelby GT350 Front Disc Brake Backing Plate / Splash Shields.
    www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

This is a great brand new part that has never been available as a reproduction.  These new Front Disc Brake Splash Shields / Backing Plates are made just like the original 65-66 Mustang and Shelby design plates.  The previous reproductions are actually copied from the ’67 Mustang style splash shields.  These ’67 are still available and will actually fit 65-66 Mustangs while offering better venting.

Now you can replace your missing, pitted or bent original splash shields with these new, correct shields.

The part number on the new correct 65-66 style brake shields for the Mustang is BK-3481.  These are sold as a pair.

The 67 Mustang style shields are sold individually.  The part numbers are BK-348L and BK-348R.

  • 65-66 GT350 Mustang Oil Cap to Air Cleaner Base Hose

65-66 GT350 Mustang Oil Cap to Air Cleaner Base Hose

Hose Kit with Clamps for 65-66 GT350 Mustang Shelby.  This hose fits from the oil cap to the air cleaner base.
    www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

A lot of Shelby owners have asked us about the hose that goes from the oil cap to the air cleaner base on a 1965 and 1966 GT350 Mustang Shelby.  We finally got around to sourcing this.  The hose is ribbed like the original.  It has no markings like the originals that we have seen.

We measured several originals and came up with a common length of right under nine inches, so that is what is in the kit.  The proper “squeeze type” clamps are also included.

This hose would have also been originally used on any 289 HiPo Mustang that was originally delivered to a California DSO.  This was basically the smog or emissions equipment back in 1965 for the High Performance Mustang.

    Our part number is EG-3952.

We are very excited to announce the availability of the one inch sway bar bushings (insulators) for the 1965 and 1966 Shelby Mustang.  These rubber bushings are a Virginia Classic Mustang exclusive.

I’ve just noticed some NOS bushings selling for over $200.00 a pair, and I really wanted to see some nice and correct bushings available for these cars at a reasonable price.

I could not be more pleased with how they turned out.  It is virtually impossible to tell these from the originals or an NOS Ford Part.

They were made using an original sample, the original Ford Blue Prints, and an NOS sample of the original part number, C0AA-5493-A.

Order Part number SU-321.  They are only $22.95 a pair.

  • Rubber Bumper for Pinion Shield on 65-66 HiPo Mustangs

Rubber Bumper for Pinion Shield on 65-66 HiPo Mustangs

All of the 1965-68 Mustangs with the 9 inch rear end assembly had a special shield over the center section.  On the top of this shield was a rubber bumper as pictured here.  Since the ’66 GT350’s were all K Code Mustangs, they, of course had (more…)
